We recommend replacing both the indoor and outdoor units of your A/C. However, there are exceptions to this. For instance, if your unit is still under warranty, your manufacturer may provide you with a new and compatible unit at little or no cost.

But if it’s not under warranty, it’s best to replace the entire system at once. The indoor and outdoor parts of your A/C unit were designed to work together. Pairing them with different models may result in problems.

In terms of quality and features, several HVAC filters vary. Usually, we recommend following the HVAC filter guide provided by the manufacturer of your HVAC system. This is because filters have different minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) ratings, ranging from 1-20.

The higher the MERV rating, the more effective it is in filtering pollutants. However, along with it is the faster clogging of your filters. Be sure to call a pro to help you decided what’s best for you.

Usually, it would be best if you had your filters replaced at least every month. However, if you suffer from allergies, the frequency of your replacement may vary.

Also, yearly filter replacement is enough if you live in a more rural spot or less occupied residence with less pollution around.
